Avast! it's "Talk Like a Pirate" Day!

Ahoy, me Hearties!
Heave Ho and get with it! It's Talk Like a Pirate Day! There be no better way to immerse yourself in fantasy and pure silliness than to talk like a pirate for a day. My daughter and I have been having pirate exchanges on September 19st for years now. And in case you didn't know, Seattle has it's own official pirates (of course we also have an ocean here too).
A "real" pirate ship, The Lady Washington
Despite their reputations, old time pirates are a safe personae for kids, kind of like dinosaurs. They are scary but there is little chance of actually running into one.
What silly thing have you done lately? Suspend disbelief today, don't worry what other scurvy dogs think, pull on yer peg leg, grab yarr parrot and heave ho! Savvy???
AArrgh,

I took my neice to the zoo Saturday for the butterfly festival. We went around the entire zoo with pipe cleaner antenae, and tissue paper wings on. It was so much fun.

Ahrrrr....(I'm trying to talk like a pirate!) -- Kate, we have our own pirate here in the little town of Fort Walton Beach on Florida's Emerald Coast. Each year we have a week long festival in honor of one Mr. Billy Bowlegs. There is a mock pirate battle as his ship comes into Santa Rosa Sound and his crew takes over the city. The festival includes a pirate market, treasure hunts, and a parade! I've tried dressing like a pirate, but never talking like one before!

There is nothing like dropping the ordinary human and becomes someone or something else...butterflies or pirates! It broadens your perspective. I once was a alligator for a play (Peter Pan)and had to stop at the drug store in full costume. An older gentleman was looking for something in the same isle as I standing in. He consciously and completely ignored me. Some people just don't get it. Sad.
